Illocutionary force of speech act in "Crying Before Zarqa al-Yamamaa" By Amel Dunqul

Abstract

Pragmatics is considered a rich linguistic field that tends to study language within its ordinary and contextual use. It seeks to delve into meanings and uncover their underlying circumstances through a range of procedural tools, such as speech acts, conversational implicature, and others, to reach the speaker’s intentionality and communicative aims. On this basis, it is appropriate to explore the world of the poem “Weeping Before Zarqāʾ al-Yamāmah” by the poet Amal Dunqul, employing speech act theory as an analytical tool. Through this approach, we evoke the interaction between figures of the past and the present, while examining selected performative acts, their force, and the communicative purposes they convey.
