Phonemic Formation and Its Representations in Generating the Meaning of the Holy Qur’anic Text

Abstract

The textuality of the Holy Qur’an constitutes a semantic presence in religious consciousness. Perhaps what distinguishes this presence is the nature of the questions it raises, as it represents an eternal reference, which constantly makes it subject to the dialectic of approach and study.

Accordingly, the presence of the Qur’anic text has become a central focus for objectives of thought and a source for many fields of dialogue. From this perspective, this study seeks to lead the text towards systems of phonological thought, drawing upon the corpus of the Qur’anic text.

In this context, the content of this approach can be highlighted, as this research attempts to engage with the Qur’anic discourse through an exploratory vision based on observing some Qur’anic verses and tracing their phonetic phenomena and their role in semantic generation. It is an attempt to reread the Holy Qur’anic text and examine its phonemic components through the conceptual tools produced by the theory of phonological formation, which contribute to revealing phonetic relationships and their semantic role at the level of the surface structure of the construction, as well as their reflections on the deep structure of meaning and signification. These are aspects whose significance is affirmed within the framework of the reading act of Qur’anic discourse.
